Auditioning for Theatre (ages 13-18) course description
Two three-week sessions; Saturdays, 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  First session: Auditioning for Plays, January 16-January 30, $75
  Second session: Auditioning for Musicals, February 6-February 20, $75

Course Descriptions

Youth Level: Ages 8-12

YL-1: Acting FUNdamentals — Theatre games and activities help you stretch your imagination and build confidence! Have fun using voice and body to create characters and scenarios, and perform for a group on the final day of class! (Fall, 7 weeks; $175)

YL-2: Playmakers — Build your acting skills while working with other actors on creating and developing an original short play! Showcase your work for family and friends on the last day of class! (Winter, 7 weeks; $175)

YL- 3: Acting Up! — Explore theatre through improvisation and short scripted pieces! Get ready for fun as you work as a team toward a final showcase performance for family and friends! (Spring, 7 weeks; $175)

Teen Level: Ages 13-18

TL-1: Scene Acting for Teens — Develop and refine acting skills through working on scripted scenes and/or monologues. Theatre games and exercises round out the activities to help build physical and vocal energy! Showcase your works-in-progress during the final class for family and friends! (Fall, 7 weeks; $175)

TL-2: Auditioning for the Theatre — Gather tips and techniques for improving your auditioning skills as you get personalized feedback from an experienced professional director! This series of classes is broken into two parts, one focusing on auditioning for plays and the other on auditioning for musicals, and may be taken as a three-week or a six-week course. (Winter, 6 weeks: $150; 3 weeks: $75 [specify first session — plays, second session — musicals])

TL-3: Improv and Beyond — Broaden your range as a performer as you explore a variety of performance styles, including improvisation, ensemble movement, and scripted work. This fun class culminates in a showcase of performance work for family and friends! (Spring, 7 weeks; $175)

Acting Classes for Adults Ages 18 and up

Acting I: Beginning Acting — Ever wonder what it would feel like to act on the stage? Ensemble-based acting exercises help students develop both physical and vocal expression and lay the groundwork for further acting training. Great for anyone with an interest in theatre, personal growth, or improved communication skills! (Fall and Winter, 7 weeks--$195)

Acting II: Intro to Scene Work — Apply basic acting skills to scripted material in this class for the beginning adult actor. Energizing physical and vocal exercises will develop your flexibility to create and portray characters and situations! (Winter and Spring, 7 weeks-$195)

Scene Study for Adults — Explore and extend your acting skills through scripted scenes and/or monologues! Learn how to transform your performance with simple techniques for building and conveying a character. Experienced and emerging actors are welcome to this supportive class environment. (Fall and Spring, 7 weeks-$195)

NEW! Weekend Workshops — These three-hour sessions provide a concentrated opportunity for exploring and building performance skills. Sessions are individually priced. Class sizes are limited and advance registration is required. Ages 18 and up.

Singing for Non-Singers — Ever wonder if you have what it takes to be a singer? Or do you love to sing, but you've been told not to sing in public? This fun and friendly class environment will give you a working vocabulary of vocal music terms, provide you with ideas of songs from musical theatre that highlight your vocal strengths, and help you bring out your best sound (even when you're nervous)! (Fall, December 6, $60)

Audition Technique — Bring your prepared monologue and/or song (three minutes or less in total length), or plan to use provided material for cold readings in this supportive class designed to help you feel more comfortable at an audition. A professional director will provide feedback on everything from your introduction of yourself to your exit from the stage (and everything in between!) to assess your strengths and offer tips for improving your audition technique. (Winter, January 24, $60)

Shakespearean Monologues—Bring a prepared monologue from Shakespeare (four minutes or less in length), or plan to use provided samples for directed rehearsal with an experienced Shakespearean theatre artist. Learn ways to draw meaning from the language and convey a clear character and circumstance using purposeful voice and movement. No Shakespearean performance experience is necessary, although familiarity with some of his works is helpful. (Spring, March 7, $60)
